What gets set on your device, by whom, and how to turn it off.

A cookie is a small file placed on your device by a website. Similar technologies include local storage and pixels — we use "cookies" to cover all of them. This policy sits alongside our Privacy Policy.
These make the site work and cannot be switched off. No consent is required for them.
Rate limiting — which stops a few visitors consuming everyone's lookup budget — does not use a cookie. It counts recent requests against your IP address in a short-lived store that expires within roughly an hour.
_ga and _ga_<id> to distinguish one visitor from another and group a visit together, so we can see which parts of the product people actually use. Up to 24 months. Witch One is funded by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners set cookies to select ads, cap how often you see the same one, measure performance and detect invalid traffic. Where you have consented, or where consent is not legally required in your location, some of these personalise ads based on your prior browsing.
Typical items include Google's __gads, __gpi, IDE and test_cookie, plus equivalents from Google's partners. Durations are set by those vendors and generally run from a session to 24 months. The current list of ad technology providers Google may use is published at business.safety.google/adscookies.
Advertising is not served on comparison or result pages at all, so no advertising cookie is set by us on those pages.
Advertising and analytics consent. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland you will see a Google-certified consent message before non-essential cookies are set, and you can change or withdraw your choices there at any time. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it.
In your browser. Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge all let you block or delete cookies in their privacy settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may break parts of the site.
Advertising opt-outs. Google My Ad Center, aboutads.info/choices, optout.networkadvertising.org, and youronlinechoices.eu. Opting out of personalisation does not remove ads — it makes them less relevant.
Google Analytics. You can opt out across all sites with Google's browser add-on.
There is no consistent industry standard for Do Not Track browser signals, and we do not respond to them.
For visitors in the UAE we process cookie data under the PDPL — consent for non-essential cookies, legitimate interests for strictly necessary ones. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland we obtain prior consent for all non-essential cookies through a Google-certified consent management platform, as required by Google's EU user consent policy.
